Missions
| In recent years this
congregation, through its Mission Outreach Committee, has sent workers to
sites around the world and across the Eastern US to spread the Gospel in
Word and Deed. Sites have included Haiti, the Philippines, Trinidad,
Greece, as well as West Virginia, Western Pennsylvania and rural southern
Maryland. Participants work among the poorest people in the world, as
well as assist low income home owners and communities with clean-up from
flooding and poverty. Some of the
work includes caulking, scraping and painting; replacing roofs and flooring;
hanging drywall; gutting and tearing out buildings; working on foundations,
building decks and ramps; cleaning up debris; landscaping and simply
encouraging people in despair.
On occasion, Youth Groups can lead children's ministry programs in
conjunction with a local church or organization. Teens also have
helped at local food pantries. Work has been done on homes, churches,
community centers, schools, libraries, graveyards and community parks to
give hope to the residents.
The Domestic trips are under the guidance of congregational youth
leaders Kathy Bittner and Dale Reichert; the International trip is guided by
Wilson Hoffman. The trips build not only hope, homes and
relationships, but changes the lives of participants.
